EXPERIENCE

The University of Alabama College of Communication & Information Sciences, Department of Advertising & Public Relations

Adjunct Professor | August 2023 – Present

I currently teach Public Relations Campaigns, the final course for public relations majors. In this course, I guide groups of students through creating an integrated communications campaign for a real client that culminates in presentations of their work throughout the semester to the client. I previously taught Advanced Digital Marketing, an upper-level public relations course where students developed a deeper understanding of digital marketing tools, such as display advertising, social media advertising, email marketing, and SEO optimization.

The University of Alabama School of Law

Communications Specialist II | November 2023 – Present

I work with a small team to produce and plan internal and external communications for the Law School while adhering to the larger University of Alabama brand standards, including both print and digital materials. The communications department provides support to every department and office within the Law School, including advancement, career services, the Dean's office, admissions, and the Public Interest Institute. I am responsible for managing the Law School’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn accounts, including producing graphics, composing posts, and analyzing performance metrics both on-platform and through Sprout Social. I am also responsible for planning and producing the Law School's email marketing campaigns, including the monthly email newsletter that is distributed to alumni and Law School employees, and event and donor solicitation emails. I am responsible for writing and editing editorial content for the Law School's website and annual alumni magazine. Recently, I played a key role in the launch of the Law School's new website using WordPress. In the physical realm, I plan and produce a variety of print materials, including the Law School's annual faculty scholarship publication, alumni magazine, and additional mailings as needed, that are distributed to key stakeholders (alumni, current and potential students, faculty and staff members, peer institutions, and select local and national media contacts). I also fill photography and videography needs for Law School events, including tailgates, alumni receptions, award ceremonies, graduation ceremonies, and student and faculty headshots.

Career Services Specialist | August 2022 – November 2023

I began my career at the University of Alabama School of Law in the Career Services Office as the Career Services Specialist. The CSO serves to connect students and alumni with potential employment opportunities and provide career resources and counseling. The Office accomplishes this by hosting On-Campus Interviews twice per year; traveling with students to Off-Campus Interview Programs; facilitating applications for judge clerkships; publishing an online job board accessible to students, alumni, and employers; reviewing and updating application materials; hosting a variety of programs for students to learn about different career paths; and being a resource for students during the employment process. My responsibilities include coordinating the on-campus interview program in which employers are connected with current students to fill positions needed at their firm or organization, then come to the Law School to conduct interviews. This includes timely communication with employers and students, collecting resumes, and coordinating interviews using our online system. In addition, I am responsible for posting new employment opportunities for students and alumni on our online job board. I also run the Instagram account using Meta Business Suite – you can see my design work here find more analytics information here.

Sister District Project

GOTV Phonebank Fellow | July – November 2022

Sister District is a unique political organization in that they partner with local and state elections in areas that we think can flip (or remain) Democratic. They accomplish this by connecting volunteers to these campaigns to canvass, make phone calls, send texts, and write letters and postcards. As a GOTV (Get Out the Vote) Phonebank Fellow, I learned how to run a successful virtual phonebank, including how to train new volunteers and troubleshoot problems, how to have meaningful conversations with voters, how to recruit volunteers and keep them coming back, and how to gain insights from data about the success of a campaign. I also gained valuable experience in learning how to work with a team. The Fellowship and each phonebank is entirely virtual, but still stresses the importance of working together and creating a community. In the 2022 midterm elections, each of the 18 candidates that Sister District endorsed won their races. For the nine GOTV Phonebank Fellows, we each averaged 1,370 total dials, found an average of 16 undecided voters, recruited three local volunteers, and helped 22 voters make vote plans.

The University of Alabama Department of Advertising & Public Relations

Instructor of Record | December 2021 – August 2022

I served as the instructor for two sections of Introduction to Graphic Design Software, the same course I had been a Teaching Assistant for for three semesters. The class is focused on three softwares in the Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Students were expected to complete video courses on LinkedIn Learning, as well as projects and quizzes throughout the semester. My responsibilities entailed being respondent to students who reach out for help and keeping track of all assignment grades for each student.

The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development

Branding Assistant | May – August 2021

The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development works with different federal, state, and local organizations to improve community and economic development across the State of Alabama. As a student branding assistant, I worked mostly in the Adobe Creative Suite on multiple projects to design and proof branding materials to promote tourism throughout the State of Alabama.

The University of Alabama Department of Advertising & Public Relations

Teaching Assistant | August 2020 – December 2021

For three semesters, I was a graduate teaching assistant for Introduction to Design Software. The class was mostly first-year students, and they were required to complete LinkedIn Learning lessons, quizzes, and projects in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. As a TA, my responsibilities included helping students if they had questions about using the software and grading the students' projects.

The Melting Pot

Server | November 2019 – March 2020

The Melting Pot is a four-course fondue fine dining restaurant. As a server, I was responsible for ensuring that each guest had a special experience that they wouldn't soon forget. I was responsible for making the guest's cheese fondue, ensuring their salads come out correctly, preparing the meat entree, including the seasoned fondue pot, as well as instructing guests on how to prepare their meat in the fondue pot. Finally, guests chose a chocolate fondue that I prepare and bring to the table. In this position, I honed my time management skills, my patience, and my customer service skills.

Shreefer Law Firm

Office Assistant | August 2019 – July 2020

Shreefer Law Firm specializes in international litigation assistance. At Shreefer Law, the owner, Karina Shreefer, works with various law firms across the U.S. and Canada to serve civil suits on defendants who live abroad. I assisted in preparing documents to send to the various Central Authorities, including proofreading translations and editing the documents when necessary, as well as communicating with clients, process servers, and government officials to retain services, clarify information, and keep them updated on the status of a case.

The Avenue Pub

Server | March 2019 – August 2019

The Avenue Pub is one of the most popular restaurants in Tuscaloosa, so I learned how to work in a fast-paced environment which helped hone my multi-tasking skills. I had to ensure that every guest left satisfied, which included serving them the best dish and accompanying drink.

The University of Alabama Sanford Media Center

Student Assistant | August 2018 – December 2018

The Sanford Media Center is located in Gorgas Library at the University of Alabama and offers students and faculty assistance with various multimedia software and equipment. As a student assistant, I would answer students' questions about their projects, mostly using Adobe Creative Suite. I was also responsible for scheduling trainings and consults for the senior staff members.

Olive Garden

Bartender/Server | September 2016 – September 2018

Along with serving the bar top, I would also serve the tables located in the cafe area. I was in charge of making all alcoholic drinks for the other servers as well. At Olive Garden, I was also a server and a catering specialist, so I would often help in other areas of the restaurant.
